I saw this project on the Better Life Bags blog yesterday and just HAD to make one... it's such a great idea! Ever since I became a mom I have been more aware of just how quickly time goes by, and the days are really blurring together. This little calendar journal is a great way for someone like me to make a quick note at the end of the day to help me catch those clouds and pin them down!
I'd classify this as "saving" memories. I love that I'll be able to look back in 2012 at all the memories in 2011 and it will just keep going for many years.
The picture at the top is my version... I DID buy the candle Rebecca at BLB suggested from Target just to get the box, though I was a little miffed at myself for spending $12.99 on it. I would have preferred to find a cheaper option for a box but I was shopping last night and really wanted to get this thing done to have it to start with today. If I ever make you one as a gift don't worry, the whole thing won't cost me more than $5. ;)
The dividers are from paper left over from making my new cash envelope system.
I did NOT want to buy a date stamp since I knew I would really probably only use it for this purpose, much as I tried to convince myself otherwise. So, I found a cool font that looked retro and stampy and used it to create my date cards. If you want them, here - you can have 'em and use them to make your own calendar journal in a box! :)
Here's the original tutorial, if you're using my printed cards instead of a date stamp just print on your index cards BEFORE you cut them in half.

AWESOME! Man, I wish I had thought to do the cool printed font. That would've saved me two hours! I already had the date stamper, though - so at least I put it to good use! Looks great!

I'll post a link to your printed index cards on the original blog post for future interest - thanks!
I saw this too, Kim, and I had totally decided to make one too! How funny - I also made my cards on the computer instead of using a date stamp (which I didn't have). Great minds think alike, huh? :) I like your idea of using cute scrapbook paper as dividers.
ReplyDeleteKim, I love this! I might have to make one of these (even though my little one is going to be three years old in five months- yikes!). I was the mom that had every good intention of keeping a baby calendar the first year. I even got a really easy one that had a sticker for every possible baby milestone and I never stuck one sticker on that dang calendar. Oh well, all the really important stuff is documented on video but I do like the idea of writing down simple short descriptions and not worrying about expressing every little event with an eloquently written masterpiece. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis may make me seem dumb but how exactly did you print these off onto your cards? I am trying to figure out how I would put the cards/paper into my printer and have the date end up in the right spot.
ReplyDeleteOh.My.Word!!! I love this. So doing it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog.
@Anna Marie - Sorry, it's not dumb, I meant to put it in the post! I tricked my printer into thinking it was printing a Borderless 4x6 photo, since the cards are the exact same size. :) Good luck!
ReplyDeleteSo, I cannot thank you enough for this template! I couldn't find a date stamp locally and you saved me the headache of ordering one. You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis is fantastic! Such a time saver! Might I ask - what font did you use? I have a typewriter font and am wondering if it's the same, to make tabs for the months. Thanks!
